Now under new management.
Well this is strange…after a decade of independently running my own network of sites, I’ve shut it all down and moved my personal blog to Tumblr. Not only that, but I’ve handed the keys to the loonygames archives off to Timedoctor.org, where (hopefully) it will remain for many years to come.
So why the big change? For one thing, free alternatives are straight-up better than what I had before. I rarely updated my blog, and when I did, it was increasingly a painful process compared to Tumblr here. Between Gmail, Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook and Flickr, there simply isn’t a need to host anything myself.
As I said, loonygames will live on in its perfectly preserved form, thanks to Zachary at Timedoctor.org. I’m in the process of finding a new host for my friend Howard Cruse (whose site I’ve hosted since its inception), and the set of links I used to display at loonyboi.com are now much better presented at About.me.
I did make the conscious decision to let my old blog posts go off into the sunset. While it’s not a huge deal to import them into Tumblr (or Wordpress.com), Google’s Cache (and the Internet Archive) I’m sure will preserve them as much as they need to be. The loonygames archives were much more important, and I’m glad they have a home.
It’s very strange to shut things down like this…it feels like the end of an era. And it is. But it’s a long overdue one.
Naturally, this site will likely continue to be updated just as frequently as my previous one. Which is to say, very rarely. I’ll continue to post my annual Kiss Me I Don’t Smoke posts (in which I calculate how much money I would have spent had I not quit smoking in ‘99) and my Oscar Picks. Beyond that…don’t look for much.
Also, I put one of those “Ask Me Anything” links on the side there, but I don’t know how much (if at all) I will actually use it. You can feel free to ask me anything, but that doesn’t mean I’ll actually answer it (especially if it’s a question about my employer).
In any event, welcome. Let’s get her in the air and see how she flies.
